Lahore (Showbiz Desk) – The 98th birth anniversary of people’s poet Habib Jalib is being observed today with great reverence and respect. Known for fearlessly raising his voice against oppression and injustice, Habib Jalib earned a special place in the hearts of the public through his revolutionary poetry.

Habib Jalib was born on March 24, 1928, in Hoshiarpur, East Punjab. His real name was Habib Ahmad. After the creation of Pakistan, he moved to Karachi and later settled in Lahore.

In his early years, he wrote romantic poetry; however, witnessing the growing oppression and exploitation in society, his poetry took on a revolutionary tone. His verses consistently represented the voice of the people against tyranny, oppression, and injustice, becoming widely popular.

During the era of former President Ayub Khan, Habib Jalib actively supported Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah in her presidential campaign. Renowned poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz also regarded him as a true poet of the masses.

His prominent poetry collections include Barg-e-Awara, Sar-e-Maqtal, Ahd-e-Sitam, Harf-e-Haq, Zikr Behtay Khoon Ka, Ahd-e-Saza, Gunbad-e-Be-Dar, Goshay Mein Qafas Ke, Harf-e-Sardar, and Charon Janib Sannata.

Habib Jalib also wrote songs for films, including Yeh Aman, Parai Aag, Nag Mani, Khamosh Raho, Shaam Dhale, Maa Bahu Beta, Be-Reham, and Kaun Kisi Ka, while his song for the film Zarka gained particular popularity.

Due to his bold and awakening poetry, Habib Jalib continues to live in the hearts of the people, and his voice remains a symbol of truth and justice in every era.
