His wife, Barbara Gadson, confirmed his passing on April 2, stating that he had recently been dealing with illness and physical weakness, and had also suffered a back injury after a fall at home.
Throughout his career, James Gadson worked as a backup drummer with many prominent artists, including Diana Ross and Kelly Clarkson, earning a distinguished place in the music industry.
Born on June 17, 1939, in Kansas City, James Gadson began his career in the late 1960s and later became one of the most prominent drummers in R&B music.
He initially gained recognition while working with Charles Wright & the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band, and his fame further increased after contributing to Bill Withers’ album in 1972.
Family members and fans have paid tribute to him as a wonderful person, husband, and a highly talented artist, honoring his contributions to music.
