Government Raises Kerosene and Light Diesel Prices, Petrol and Diesel Levy Remains

Islamabad (Commerce Desk): The government has increased the price of kerosene by Rs 39.20 per liter and light diesel by Rs 67.51 per liter following a levy adjustment, while maintaining the petroleum levy on petrol and diesel. According to private TV reports, the levy on petrol remains Rs 105.37 per liter and on diesel Rs 55.24 per liter. The new price of light diesel has been set at Rs 302.52 per liter, up from the previous Rs 235.01.

The Ministry of Energy stated that by keeping petrol and diesel prices stable, the government will provide a subsidy of Rs 23 billion, covering the period from March 14 to March 20. Under this subsidy, petrol will receive Rs 49.63 per liter and diesel Rs 75.05 per liter.

This amount will be disbursed to oil marketing companies (OMCs) through OGRA under the Price Differential Claims mechanism. The Ministry also reported that the cabinet has approved the establishment of the Prime Minister’s Efficiency Fund, and the Economic Coordination Committee has approved transferring Rs 27.10 billion to this fund. The price differential payments will include verification and auditing of bills submitted by the OMCs.
