Islamabad (Pakistan News): Pakistan has strongly condemned and outright rejected the Delhi court’s sentencing of prominent Kashmiri political leader Asia Andrabi to life imprisonment, along with her associates Fahmida Sofi and Naheed Nasreen, who were each handed 30-year prison terms.
According to the Foreign Office, the verdict was issued under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and contradicts the principles of justice. Pakistan considers this decision part of a broader series of politically motivated cases aimed at silencing dissenting voices and intimidating those advocating for the legitimate rights of the Kashmiri people. The verdict raises serious questions about transparent legal processes, judicial independence, and international human rights.
The Foreign Office noted that Asia Andrabi has long been a prominent voice for the Kashmir cause, and her sentence reflects efforts in Indian-administered Kashmir to restrict political expression and civil liberties. Such actions escalate regional tensions and undermine prospects for peace and stability.
Pakistan has called on the United Nations, international human rights organizations, and the global community to take immediate notice and hold India accountable for its actions. The statement emphasized the protection of the political, social, and human rights of the Kashmiri people, the right to freedom of expression, and access to a fair trial. Pakistan also reaffirmed its unwavering support for the right to self-determination of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
